We only release newsletters when we have substantial and actual news that we
think our users may benefit from knowing. Our newsletters are to convey
information only and not to sell you anything.
First, Thanks to Everyone!
We'd like to express our sincere thanks to those officers that have signed
up to use our software. We're glad to help and we look forward to providing you with
more useful software in the future. If there is any time that you stop and
say "Man, it would be nice if my computer could ..." please let us know how you
finish that sentence! We'd absolutely love to make the software for you (and for
free, of course).
Administrative and Website Updates
We have significantly reduced the cost of a Priority Subscription to $40.00
(from $150.00). We did this in hopes of making the Priority Subscription
available to more users. (We all know how gas prices are stangling our wallets.) A Priority Subscription provides you (for one year)
with a CD-ROM of all our software, email technical support should you need it,
and updated CD-ROMs whenever we release a new product or major update.
New Products and Services
Our Forensic Web Screenshot program takes a complete screenshot of a webpage.
But what if you need a daily, automated screenshot of a webpage? MySpace pages
in particular change almost all the time and one screenshot may not be enough
for your investigation. Our
SaferSpace.NET
service lets you take daily screenshots of MySpace profiles and those screenshots will be stored on our server for 60
days and you can download the images to your computer at any time. Like our
other products, SaferSpace.NET accounts are free to law enforcement. For more
information visit

Product Updates
Quick Hash
is now open source and available under the GNU Public License (GPL)
v3. Quick Hash is hosted by Google Code Project Hosting at
http://code.google.com/p/spearforensicsquickhash/
. We hope to migrate our other products over to open source soon.
What
does open source mean to me?
We have released version 2 of
Chat Watch SPEAR
Edition
. In this version we have
updated it to take advantage of the most current technology (namely SQL Server
Compact Edition 3.5 and the .NET Framework 3.5). We also updated some of the
icons in the program and we removed all remaining references to Chat Watch SPEAR
Edition being a trial version since it is now free software.
IMPORTANT: Chat
Watch SPEAR Edition 2 is not compatible with your database from Chat Watch SPEAR
Edition 1. If you have an active investigation in Chat Watch SPEAR Edition 1
it is recommended that complete it before installing Chat Watch SPEAR Edition 2. Chat Watch
SPEAR Edition 2 and Chat Watch SPEAR Edition 1 can co-exist on the same
computer. Chat Watch SPEAR Edition 2 does have a feature to convert a version 1
database to version 2 (under the Tools menu).
What's Coming Soon
Forensic Search
will search a computer, drive, or specific folder for files added
to your Forensic Database. The goal of Forensic Search is to provide a means of
searching storage media for files that you have added to Forensic Database. More
information will be available as Forensic Search progresses in development.
Recently, in an update to
Forensic P2P
we added the capability to map a trace route using Microsoft Virtual Earth. We recognize that this may be a useful
feature outside of Forensic P2P so we are creating a new product called
Forensic Trace Route
just for this feature. Look for Forensic Trace Route to be available soon.
We are in the process of updating Chat Watch SPEAR Edition's documentation and
help files to reflect the new features and changes in version 2.
Thanks for reading!
